Vasco: Several fisherfolk bodies have welcomed the decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) directing that the Environmental Clearance (EC) and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance for deepening of the approach channel at Mormugao port not be operationalised until the next hearing.The fishing organisations termed the order an important interim step to protect Goa’s marine ecology, coastal environment, traditional fishing livelihoods and public health. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on Nov 2.The general secretary of the National Fishworkers Forum (NFF) Olencio Simoes said a petition was filed to challenge the EC and CRZ clearances granted for the proposed deepening of the approach channel at Mormugao port.
