Nagpur: At least a couple of passengers suffered minor injuries while others were left panicked after stones were hurled at the running Nagpur-Mumbai CSMT Duronto Express on Friday night. Windows of A1, B2 and B5 coaches were damaged during the incident, which occurred around 8.30pm, two km ahead of Borkhedi near Nagpur.The maximum impact was reported in B2 coach, where a stone smashed through the window shield, leaving a large hole. Glass shards flew inside the coach. A video clip of the incident has gone viral on social media.Rajdeep Soni, an architect from Nagpur, was having dinner aboard the train when he heard a loud thud. “A window pane suddenly shattered and glass pieces came flying inside the coach,” he said. The glass fell on people sitting nearby. Some passengers suffered minor cuts, bruises and bleeding.The train was stopped at Wardha station, where railway doctors attended to the injured passengers. The damaged window panes were also replaced at the station, said officials.RPF Nagpur division of Central Railway has formed multiple teams to identify those responsible. Officials said investigations are being carried out around Bamni village, which is in the vicinity of the spot. The motive behind the attack remains unclear. No accused has been identified so far.Sources said the stones were hurled from the direction of the third and fourth lines. Senior railway officials, including senior divisional commercial manager, Nagpur division of Central Railway, Aman Mittal, also reached the station. They spoke to the passengers and took stock of the situation.Teams from RPF, Govt Railway Police (GRP), its Local Crime Branch and local police have joined the investigation. CCTV footage is being examined and local intelligence has been activated.A similar stone-pelting incident was reported around three months ago on the Dakshin Express between Chittoda and Wardha, following which some suspects were apprehended. Senior divisional security commissioner Manoj Kumar of RPF Nagpur division said now stone-pelting has occurred from a new spot. “Security checks and patrolling are being intensified at other vulnerable points in the Nagpur division, including areas near Ajni and Manish Nagar,” said Kumar.
