Bengaluru: A newlywed couple sustained burn injuries after a gas leak from a cylinder triggered an explosion at their rented house in Kondappa Layout, near Yelahanka, in the early hours of Sunday. The injured — Krishnaveni, 25, and Raju, 26 — are undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital.According to preliminary investigation, the explosion occurred between 6am and 6.30am. The two are natives of Bagepalli in Chikkaballapur district, and got married three months ago. Raju works at a private firm.
Police said the couple was unaware of the gas leak. When Krishnaveni either switched on the light or attempted to light the gas stove, the accumulated gas ignited, triggering a sudden explosion and fire. The impact damaged part of the house wall. Krishnaveni sustained serious burn injuries, while Raju also suffered burns.Police and fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. A senior officer said the cylinder was intact. A case of accidental fire has been registered at Yelahanka police station and a probe is on.Fire at storeIn a separate incident, an accidental fire broke out at a furniture store in Canara Bank Colony, Moodalapalya, in west Bengaluru around midnight Saturday. The fire started on the ground floor of a multi-storeyed building. No casualties were reported, though two trees in front of the building also caught fire. Fire and emergency personnel doused the blaze. The shop belongs to a person identified as Murali.
