Kanpur: A newly-wed woman jumped into the Chambal river from the Chambal bridge under the Chakarnagar police station area on Saturday evening at around 8 O’clock. Police launched a search operation with local divers and a motor boat, but no trace of her was found until late night.The woman was identified as Bhavna Diwakar (23), daughter of Ashok Kumar, a resident of Mohalla Katra Shamsher Khan in Etawah. She was married on March 12 to Satyaveer, a resident of village Hanumantpura under Sahson police station area.According to Bhavna’s aunt, Urmila Devi, Bhavna was under the influence of evil spirits. For this reason, Urmila Devi and Bhavna’s brother, Ajay Kumar, took her on a bike to her maternal home in Etawah when the incident occurred.Police said that when the bike reached the Chambal bridge, Bhavna suddenly got off and jumped into the river before family members could react. On receiving information, police and in-laws reached the spot, a motor boat was called, and a search was initiated in the river.SHO Balram Mishra said that the reason for the jump was not yet clear. tnn
