Ahmedabad: A jeweller in Shahibaug has accused two newly hired goldsmiths of stealing 150g of 22-carat gold worth around Rs 20 lakh from his workshop.In his complaint filed with Madhavpura police on Saturday night, the jeweller, who operates from New Madhupura Market, had recently hired two workers from West Bengal through a craftsman already working with him.On Tuesday, he handed over 200g of gold to the two to make jewellery. Later that night, the workers returned a box to him, claiming the work had been completed. He told police he did not check or weigh the contents immediately as the two kept him engaged in a conversation.The next morning, the two workers allegedly failed to turn up for work. After repeated calls to them went unanswered, he checked the box and found 150g of gold missing. In the shop’s CCTV footage, he allegedly saw one of the accused handling and removing gold. The jeweller also visited their accommodation, but they were not to be found. According to the complaint, the jeweller later learnt that the two had headed to Palitana.
