Kolkata: The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) plans to introduce an advanced life support (ALS) ambulance, complete with an ICU facility, paramedical staff and a helper, which will be available to residents of New Town and surroundings round the clock.An ambulance already serves New Town residents, but it has basic facilities and is not meant for patients with communicable diseases. “The current free, 24-hour ambulance does not have advanced life support facilties. The ALS ambulance will be have technical specifications and will be available in three shifts,” said an official. He added they were yet to decide whether the ALS ambulance would be free or a nominal amount had to be paid. —Suman Chakraborti
