Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to construct a new stadium with indoor facilities for kabaddi and badminton at Kumbara Koppal at an estimated cost of Rs 4.9 crore.The govt has identified 2.5 acres of land for the project at Kumbara Koppal, near the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research. As approval was already granted at a council meeting, MCC has prepared a detailed project report (DPR). MCC plans to begin construction in the next two months after the DPR is approved and the tender is awarded.MCC has set a six-month timeline to complete the construction. If all goes as planned, a new stadium will be built at Kumbara Koppal within the next eight months, said MCC superintendent engineer CS Manju.Speaking to TOI, MCC commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif said it selected Kumbara Koppal to promote both indoor and outdoor sports among youth in the region.Kumbara Koppal, one of the city’s oldest localities, has traditionally hosted state- and national-level wrestling competitions during the Maharajas era.
