Hosapete: The higher education department has constituted a search committee to recommend a panel of three academicians for appointment as the next vice-chancellor of Hampi Kannada University.
According to an order issued on Saturday, the committee will be headed by Prof S Vidyashankar, vice-chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.
Retired vice-chancellor Prof A Murigeppa has been nominated by the university syndicate as a member of the panel, while Prof Devdatta Sharma, former vice-chancellor of Sardar Patel University, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, has been nominated by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The deputy secretary of the higher education department will serve as the convener and member secretary of the committee.
The panel has been tasked with identifying and recommending three eligible academicians along with their detailed profiles. The names will be forwarded to the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the university, for consideration and appointment.
The exercise has gained significance as the tenure of the incumbent vice-chancellor, Prof DV Paramashivamurthy, ended on March 23 after he completed his three-year term.
The governor had initially extended his tenure until June 30. The extension was later continued for nine months or until a new vice-chancellor assumes office, whichever is earlier.
The formation of the search committee marks the start of the formal process to appoint a new head for Kannada University, one of Karnataka’s premier institutions dedicated to Kannada language, literature, culture and research.
