Prayagraj: Heart patients at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital will soon get relief from long waits for admission, with a new ward in the cardiology department expected to be ready within the next three months. The two-storey expansion of the cardiology ICU at the SRN Hospital campus is around 60% complete and is being constructed at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore.The cardiology department currently has 19 ICU beds and 18 pre-ICU beds. The expansion will add around 15 more beds, besides doctors’ chambers and a waiting area. A lift will also be provided to facilitate movement of patients to the first and second floors.The expansion is significant as the department receives around 200 to 250 patients in its OPD every day, with nearly 10 to 12 requiring admission. The existing ICU has limited space, and when the number of critical patients rises, some have to be referred to other hospitals due to the shortage of beds.“Additional ICU facilities will help in providing quicker treatment to critically ill cardiac patients and improve the department’s capacity to handle emergencies,” said cardiologist Dr Abhishek Sachdeva of Motilal Nehru Medical College.The expansion project has been pending for nearly seven years and faced repeated delays due to various reasons.
