Chandigarh: Punjab governor and UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria Thursday laid the foundation for a Rs 17 crore boys’ hostel at Punjab Engineering College (PEC), a project expected to add 309 seats and strengthen the institute’s residential infrastructure.The new hostel, approved by the Chandigarh administration to meet the growing demand for student accommodation, will be built within the PEC campus and provide modern residential facilities for students.The G+6 building, spread across 78,400 sq ft, will have 103 triple-sharing rooms, besides two guest rooms and a warden’s room.With the completion of this and another hostel project, PEC’s total hostel capacity will increase by 728 seats, from the existing 2,178 to 2,906 students. The newly announced hostel is expected to be completed within 18 months.“The new hostel will significantly enhance PEC’s residential infrastructure and provide students with improved living facilities, creating a more conducive environment for academic excellence,” a spokesperson for the UT administration said.The spokesperson said the project reflects the administration’s continued focus on strengthening educational infrastructure and improving student amenities in the city.
