Rajkot: The Rajkot International Airport was among 57 airports nationwide where new passenger amenities were inaugurated by Union civil aviation minister K Ram Mohan Naidu on Sunday. While the minister inaugurated the facilities at Rajkot, amenities at other airports across the country was launched virtually.A key highlight for Rajkot was the launch of an Udaan passenger cafe, offering tea at Rs 10 and coffee at Rs 20, aimed at making airport services more affordable. The minister also announced that international flight operations and an air cargo terminal for Rajkot would commence soon, boosting regional connectivity and trade.Nationwide, the initiative included 11 Udaan cafes, Digi Yatra facilities at eight airports, 50 free Wi-Fi zones, children’s play areas, library corners, and infrastructure upgrades. Highlighting growth, the minister said India’s airports have increased from 74 in 2014 to over 165, with plans to expand to 350 under the UDAN scheme. He emphasized that air travel is no longer limited to the affluent, with rising passenger numbers reflecting broader accessibility.
