Patna: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Muzaffarpur Regional Unit, in coordination with Special Task Force (STF) of Bihar Police, has busted an interstate charas trafficking network allegedly smuggling narcotics from Nepal into India for onward movement to Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh, an official said on Sunday. The two-day operation, which concluded on Sunday, led to the seizure of approximately 3 kg of charas valued at Rs 3 crore and the arrest of two persons under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.Officials said the action followed specific intelligence about a gang involved in cross-border charas smuggling. A joint DRI-STF team launched coordinated surveillance across remote stretches along the India-Nepal border for two days to identify key operatives, hideouts and the gang’s modus operandi.Investigators found that the syndicate had allegedly planned to evade enforcement agencies by moving the consignment through multiple trains and deliberately delaying its transit. The transportation was scheduled for Sunday morning. In the early hours of Sunday, the team received information that a suspected carrier was travelling aboard a Narkatiyaganj-Muzaffarpur MEMU train from Bapudham Motihari. Acting on the input, personnel intercepted the suspect at Muzaffarpur Junction.During questioning, the apprehended person allegedly disclosed that the contraband had been brought from Nepal and was to be delivered in Firozabad. Based on details obtained during the interception, the joint team conducted a follow-up operation and apprehended the alleged supplier, taking the total arrests to two.Further investigation is underway to determine the wider trafficking network, identify additional associates, establish the supply chain and intended distribution route of the seized charas in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the official added.
