Surat: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in a society in Amroli. The 21-year-old accused lives in the house in front of the victim’s home. On Valentine’s Day, he allegedly proposed to her and took her to his house in the afternoon. The accused allegedly forced her into a physical relationship even though the victim refused. After raping her, the accused threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the crime. As the victim looked disturbed for a few days, her mother asked her about it. She then told her mother about the rape. The family contacted Amroli police and an offence under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act was registered. Sections of the SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act were also invoked as the girl is from a protected community. The SC-ST cell of Surat police is investigating further.
