Kendrapada: A BJP booth president of Ramnagar gram panchayat under Jamboo marine police limits in Kendrapada district was allegedly beaten to death by his drunk neighbour on Tuesday night.Accused Sanjay Mandal, 26, was arrested soon after. A court rejected his bail application and remanded him in jail custody on Wednesday, said inspector in charge (IIC) of Jamboo marine police station, Anita Swain.Mandal, allegedly in an inebriated state, attacked 51-year-old Tapan Das of Ramanagar village with a wooden plank after a heated exchange of words over some issue in the locality. Das died on the spot.After the incident, some local residents apprehended the accused and informed the police.On being informed, police rushed to the spot and nabbed the accused. The wooden plank used in the crime was also seized.Police sent the body to the district headquarters hospital in Kendrapada for autopsy and registered a case under Section 103 (murder) of BNS. “An investigation has been started to ascertain the exact reason behind the murder, including the cause of the heated argument. As per our preliminary investigation, there is no political motive behind the murder. However, we are investigating all angles. Further details will emerge as the investigation progresses,” said the IIC.
