Jaipur: Negligence in repairing roads after sewer maintenance turned several stretches in the city into potential accident spots, leaving residents worried about their safety. Open sewer chambers and unfilled pits now pose risks to pedestrians and motorists alike. In Suryanagar near Taron Ki Koont on Tonk Road, sewer chambers were dug nearly 15 days ago by the Sanganer zone of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation to clean the sewer line. While the cleaning work was completed, the pits created during the process were never filled back. As a result, residents living within nearly 1km stretch between Tonk Road, the Shri Radha-Krishna temple, and nearby vegetable shops face daily inconvenience.Locals say recent rainfall filled several of these pits with water, leading to breeding of mosquitoes and flies in the area. With inadequate street lighting at night, the pits are often difficult to spot, increasing the risk of accidents.Two-wheelers frequently skid or fall into the pits, while four-wheelers get stuck, damaging vehicles and causing injuries. Since many of the pits lie in the middle of the road, drivers have little space to manoeuvre around them. The problem becomes more acute during school hours, when auto-rickshaws carrying children often get trapped in the pits and have to be pushed out by passers-by. Residents claim they lodged complaints with JMC at least five times, but no action was taken so far.A similar situation exists on Baba Harishchandra Marg in Walled City, where a nearly 500-metre stretch of road remains badly damaged. Several sewer chambers became elevated due to the broken road surface, causing two-wheelers to lose balance after hitting them. Two chambers in the area also lie completely open.Local resident Yogesh Yadav said, “The road was dug up for nearly one month but no one came to repair it. Vehicles entering the lane often hit the uneven surface and lose balance.”
