Patna: Protesters, including the mother of NEET student who died under suspicious circumstances in Jan, marched towards the CBI office in Patna on Friday, demanding justice. Police stopped them at Income Tax roundabout and deployed force to maintain order.Hundreds of people, many from Jehanabad, reached Patna by buses. A large number of women also participated in the march. The protesters tried to push past the police barricades, leading to brief scuffles.Carrying placards, the demonstrators alleged negligence in the CBI probe. The victim’s mother alleged, “I have no faith in the CBI investigation. I demand the death penalty for the guilty. The agency should act at the earliest.”The student was found unconscious at a private hostel on Jan 6 and she died during treatment at a private hospital on Jan 11.Purnia MP Pappu Yadav, who joined the protest, criticised both the investigation and public silence. “We are living in a cowardly society. I have raised the matter four times in the Lok Sabha. Why does no political leader speak about this case?” he said.The FSL report allegedly found sperm on the victim’s undergarment. Following questions over the Patna police probe, the case was handed over to the CBI.
