Amritsar: Punjab BJP general secretary Jagmohan Singh Raju on Wednesday wrote to chief minister Bhagwant Mann, asking him to take necessary steps to prioritise the inclusion of Amritsar under the City Economic Region (CER) scheme. In a letter to Mann, Raju said the CER scheme would enable targeted investments in tourism infrastructure, MSME clusters, logistics, and skill development, thereby boosting employment and fostering long-term economic growth.
Stating that Amritsar is also a major centre for carpet manufacturing and other textile industries, Raju said that in light of India’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with the UK and the European Union, as well as the proposed FTA with the US, MSMEs in the region can be prepared to access global markets. He urged Mann to send a proposal to include Amritsar under this scheme. “Amritsar is home to world-renowned religious sites — Golden Temple, Durgiana Temple, and Ram Tirath — which makes it a natural hub for international tourism and the cultural economy.”
