Shillong: The North Eastern Council (NEC) completed Rs 28.08-crore projects and released Rs 7.86 crore for ongoing initiatives in Meghalaya in July and Aug 2026.NEC said the projects covered education, healthcare, enterprise, tourism and community ecology.It released Rs 4.9 crore for modern school buildings at eight Ramakrishna Mission schools and Rs 2.5 crore for the Integrated Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Centre, sanctioned at Rs 10 crore.In East Khasi Hills, Rs 46.5 lakh was allocated for tourism infrastructure at Laitlynkot (Lamlyer) to promote community-driven ecotourism.A development programme for Tiwa (Lalung) communities in Ri-Bhoi district was completed at a sanctioned cost of Rs 2.94 crore. The project focuses on soil conservation, protection of natural spring catchments, forest biodiversity and local stewardship.The NEC also completed the installation of a 1.5 Tesla MRI machine at Tura Civil Hospital for Rs 6.69 crore, bringing advanced diagnostic services closer to residents.A water hyacinth craft cluster’s livelihood centre and design, innovation and training workshops, valued at Rs 368.69 lakh, were completed on Aug 25.The Council disbursed Rs 16.22 crore through regional agencies, universities and technical bodies, including for overseas placements in Japan for youths from the northeast.“These multifaceted milestones ensure that the people of Meghalaya stride confidently forward into an era of dignified health, knowledge, and shared prosperity,” the NEC said.
