Aizawl: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has released more than Rs 67.41 crore to various northeastern states in Feb, including over Rs 5.73 crore to Mizoram, according to a press note issued by council on Monday.The press note stated that Rs 5,73,69,245 has been provided to Mizoram to support several ongoing key development projects aimed at strengthening infrastructure, agriculture and public service delivery in the state.One of the major initiatives includes the construction of a market building at West Phaileng in Mamit district, which borders Bangladesh and Tripura. The project is expected to improve local marketing infrastructure and create better opportunities for farmers and traders. In addition, the NEC is supporting the development of a potato seed farm in Mizoram for quality seed production using tissue culture and Apical Rooted Cuttings (ARC) technology. The initiative is expected to strengthen agricultural value chains and improve productivity by ensuring the availability of high-quality planting materials for farmers.The council is also supporting the establishment of a central medical warehouse in Aizawl, which is expected to strengthen medical logistics and improve the storage and distribution of essential medical supplies across the state. Furthermore, the NEC is assisting in setting up a state veterinary information and resource centre in Mizoram to enhance veterinary services and support livestock development through improved information dissemination and technical resources. These initiatives are expected to strengthen medical infrastructure, promote agricultural innovation and improve commercial and institutional infrastructure, thereby contributing to economic growth and improved livelihoods in the state.
