Guwahati: Assam recorded nearly six crore tourists in the past decade, tourism minister Ajanta Neog told the assembly on Tuesday.Replying to a query by Congress MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed, Neog said 5,96,85,638 tourists visited the state between 2016-17 and 2025-26. The figure included 2,41,192 foreign visitors.The highest footfall was recorded in 2022-23, when 98,31,141 tourists, including 18,946 foreigners, visited Assam after the Covid-19 pandemic, she said.The lowest was in 2020-21, when only 13,52,037 tourists, including 347 foreign nationals, visited the state because of pandemic-related restrictions.Neog said most foreign tourists came from the UK, France, the UAE, Australia, the US, Switzerland, Nepal, Bangladesh, Canada, Sri Lanka, Japan, Spain, Belgium and Israel.She added that Australia, Japan and 27 European Union countries recently revised their travel advisories for Assam following improvement in the state’s law-and-order situation.
