New Delhi: Residents of areas under the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will soon be able to apply online for corrections in birth and death certificates, as the civic body is working to roll out a new facility on its official portal.Under the proposed system, citizens will be able to submit correction requests from home by entering details such as their mobile number and Aadhaar information, and uploading the required supporting documents.NDMC officials said the facility is expected to be launched within about a month. At present, residents are required to visit the Birth and Death Registration Office at Mandir Marg in person to submit applications for corrections.“While the facility for inclusion of name is already available online, the final version of the online system for corrections in birth and death certificates will be made operational after it receives approval from the NDMC chairperson,” an official said.Officials said the move was aimed at reducing inconvenience to citizens and saving time by digitising the entire process.“Birth and death certificates are crucial documents used for education, banking, property-related transactions and several other official purposes. Robust security measures will therefore be put in place to ensure that only authorised individuals can access and use the facility,” an official added. The online correction service will be available only to residents whose mobile numbers are already registered in NDMC’s database or portal.According to official data, NDMC recorded 37,160 birth registrations and around 31,448 death registrations in 2024. Every year, the civic body receives nearly 2,800-3,200 applications for corrections in birth certificates and 1,400-1,800 applications for corrections in death certificates.
