Prayagraj: North Central Railway (NCR) General Manager Naresh Pal Singh hoisted the national flag and inspected the guard of honour at the zone’s Independence Day celebrations at its headquarters on Saturday. Addressing railway employees and their families, Singh highlighted the zone’s improved financial performance, expansion of passenger facilities, safety measures and green initiatives, saying NCR was working towards continuous improvement and better passenger satisfaction.Singh said NCR’s gross originating earnings grew 13.4% by the end of July 2026 compared with the corresponding period last year. Passenger earnings increased by more than 15%, while freight earnings rose 10.5%. Ticket-checking earnings registered a 23.5% increase. NCR also earned a record Rs 179 crore through scrap sales, 121% above the proportionate target set by the Railway Board. Eighteen new train services were introduced, including four owned by NCR, while six services were extended. To improve passenger movement, 93 lifts and 60 escalators have been installed, with another 43 lifts and four escalators being commissioned.Safety remained a major focus, Singh said, with KAVACH installed on 716 km of routes and in 303 locomotives. Highlighting environmental efforts, Singh said NCR had installed solar power plants with a combined capacity of 23.9 MWp. These generated 6.95 million units between April and June, saving Rs 4.50 crore and reducing carbon emissions by 5,838 tonnes.
