Prayagraj: Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital has successfully performed its first hip replacement surgery under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, using a minimally invasive technique on a 72-year-old patient. The procedure marks a significant step towards expanding advanced orthopaedic surgical facilities for economically weaker patients at the govt hospital. The patient, 72-year-old Lavkush Singh, a resident of Karhenda in Kareli, underwent the procedure after necessary investigations and medical evaluation last week. Doctors said the minimal invasive approach involves a relatively smaller incision and causes less damage to surrounding muscles and tissues compared to conventional surgical techniques. This can help reduce postoperative pain and facilitate earlier mobilisation and recovery, enabling patients to return to their normal routine sooner. The availability of hip replacement surgery under Ayushman Bharat is expected to provide relief to patients who cannot afford the costly procedure at private hospitals. Officials said the initiative will enable beneficiaries of the govt health insurance scheme to access advanced orthopaedic treatment at SRN Hospital itself.
