Prayagraj: The North Central Railway (NCR) has commissioned the indigenous Kavach Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system on the vital Prayagraj (excluding)-Kanpur (excluding) section, covering 190 route km, on Sunday. The move is seen as a key milestone in enabling train operations at speeds of up to 160 km per hour on one of the busiest corridors of Indian Railways (IR).The system was implemented using the Sangam Express, on which the general manager, NCR, NP Singh, also carried out an inspection between Subedarganj and Manauri stations. Principal heads of departments, the divisional railway manager of Prayagraj and other headquarters and divisional officers were present.In the first phase, Kavach will be operational on eight pairs of trains, including Subedarganj-Dehradun Express, Subedarganj-Meerut City Sangam Express, Howrah-Jodhpur Superfast Express, Prayagraj-New Delhi Humsafar Express, Prayagraj-Anand Vihar Terminal Humsafar Express, Chauri Chaura Express, Subedarganj-Katra and Prayagraj-Jaipur Superfast Express. Officials added that more trains, including Vande Bharat services, will be progressively brought under the system.NCR officials credited the achievement to the efforts of the Signal and Telecommunication team led by principal chief signal and telecommunication engineer Satendra Kumar.The next phase will see the system extended to Ghaziabad-Tundla section under Mission Raftaar said senior PRO, NCR, Amit Malviya.
