Mumbai: The fight in the Nationalist Congress party for control of the party leadership has begun with the Sunetra-Parth Pawar camp targeting senior leaders State NCP President Sunil Tatkare and Praful Patel. Supporters of the two have slammed party leaders for not standing behind the Ajit Pawar family and also demanding the resignation of Tatkare as the state NCP President.

The first salvo was fired by State NCP Spokesperson, Umesh Patil who posted on social media on Friday claiming that Ajit Pawar’s family was being targeted from within the party. ” Those who became big due to Dada (Ajit’s) patronage, his trust in them and became successful due to the opportunities he gave are now trying to mentally harass his family(read sunetra and Parth Pawar). This begs a question? Did they really love Dada? Those who really loved Dada should stand behind his family.”said Umesh Patil in his social media post.

While Patil did not name anyone, another former NCP spokesperson Rupali Thombre Patil directly named Tatkare and Praful Patel for working against Party President Sunetra Pawar and her family. She called for Tatkare to resign from the state NCP President’s post.

” When Ajit Pawar was alive, he had decided to change the state Party President, however before he could act on it, he passed away. Now political strategist Prashant Kishor (who the NCP is in talks with for revamping the party) has said that he won’t be able to work with Tatkare as the party President, we are in agreement with Prashant Kishor. It’s been three years for Tatkare as the Party President, he needs to be changed. He should resign on his own.”said Thombre Patil.

Thombre Patil said that it was clear to everyone that Tatkare and Praful Patel were not supporting Sunetra Pawar after the death of Ajit Pawar. “Everyone can see who is not standing with the Pawar family, it is Tatkare and Patel. This is not an allegation; an allegation can be the truth or false but I’m stating facts. Perhaps Tatkare is insecure about his position or maybe he needs all the power for himself, they are perhaps trying to take control over the party. Without having any vested interest why else would you harass Dada’s family.”said Thombre Patil.
