Nagpur: The city witnessed two politically charged protests on Wednesday as the NCP (Ajit Pawar) and Youth Congress separately took to the streets.At Variety Square, the city unit of NCP (Ajit) staged a demonstration against MPCC president Harshwardhan Sapkal over his alleged objectionable remarks against deputy CM and party’s national president Sunetra Pawar. Led by city president Anil Ahirkar, the protest featured a symbolic display of Mahatma Gandhi’s iconic three monkeys carrying the message “Bura Mat Bolo” (Do Not Speak Evil), with Sapkal’s photograph affixed to the installation.Protesters raised slogans condemning Sapkal and asserting that they would not tolerate insults against women. As the demonstration gathered momentum, police intervened and briefly detained NCP city working president Srikant Shivankar before taking him to a police station. The party alleged that Sapkal’s remarks were disrespectful to women and said political discourse should remain within the bounds of civility.A short distance away, the Youth Congress launched a protest of its own at the Gandhi statue near Variety Square, directing its criticism at the Centre over the alleged assault on students in Delhi on July 20 during Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests. Party workers unfurled a large banner reading ‘Amit Shah Jawab Do’ from the flyover, attracting the attention of commuters. State Youth Congress general secretary Akshay Hete, along with several office-bearers and workers, participated in the protest.
