Mangaluru: The Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-13) and the group-level selection camp for the Republic Day Camp (RDC-I), organised by the 18 Karnataka Battalion NCC, began at the Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE), Moodubidire, on July 22.The 10-day camp, which will conclude on July 31, has brought together 610 NCC cadets from institutions across the Mangaluru group. It seeks to develop leadership, discipline, teamwork, self-confidence and a spirit of national service, besides selecting cadets for subsequent stages of the Republic Day Camp selection process.In his opening address, Lt Col Rohith Prakash Rai, commanding officer of the 18 Karnataka Battalion NCC, underlined the NCC’s core values of discipline, unity, dedication, integrity and character-building. He urged the cadets to make the most of the opportunity and participate sincerely in all activities.Lt Col Nithin Narayan and Subedar Major Yam Bahadur Rana also addressed the cadets, encouraging them to maintain high standards of conduct, demonstrate team spirit and strive for excellence.The camp is being conducted with the support of 25 permanent instructor staff, a girl cadet instructor, nine associate NCC officers and eight civilian staff members.Cadets will receive training in drill, weapon handling, map reading, physical fitness, leadership, fieldcraft and personality development. Cultural activities and competitions will also be held during the camp.
