Srinagar, Sep 7: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq on Monday said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had raised the issues of restoration of statehood, reservation policy and the release of J&K youth lodged in jails with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
In a statement, Sadiq said the issues were “forcefully taken up” during meetings held with the central leadership in recent days.
Responding to questions about the NC’s recent march towards the BJP headquarters, Sadiq said the party would decide the timing, scale and nature of its protests.
He said the march was not intended to demonstrate political strength but to remind the Centre of commitments made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly regarding restoration of statehood.
Sadiq said the NC would continue its political struggle for the rights and demands of the people, while reiterating that the party leadership would determine future protest programmes.
He also said the NC would observe the 44th death anniversary of its founder, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, on September 8.
Recalling Sheikh Abdullah’s role in J&K’s history, Sadiq highlighted his contribution to land reforms, education, healthcare and social justice, saying his political vision continued to remain an important part of the region’s history.
