New Delhi, Aug 3: National Conference MP Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan on Monday invited leaders of the INDIA bloc to join a peaceful protest outside Parliament on August 5, seeking the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

The invitation was extended during a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders held in the chamber of Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and other alliance leaders attended the meeting to discuss key parliamentary issues and the bloc’s strategy for the ongoing Monsoon Session.

During the meeting, Ramzan urged the alliance partners to participate in the proposed protest at Makar Dwar and stand in solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the Centre had repeatedly assured Parliament that statehood would be restored to the Union Territory but the commitment was yet to be fulfilled.

According to a statement, leaders of the INDIA bloc, including representatives of the Congress, Samajwadi Party, DMK, Trinamool Congress, CPI, AAP and other constituents, expressed support for the demand for restoration of full statehood and conveyed their willingness to participate in the August 5 protest.

The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding constitutional values and democratic rights while backing what they described as the legitimate demand for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
