Patna: A thief’s burglary plan went awry in Nawada when he allegedly dozed off before escaping with valuables worth nearly Rs 5 lakh, leading to his arrest on Sunday morning.The incident took place late Saturday night at the house of Pawan Kumar on Purani Jail Road under Town police station area. Police have registered an FIR on the family’s complaint and begun an investigation.According to police, the accused entered the house and gathered gold and silver ornaments and other valuables. Before he could flee with them, he allegedly hid inside the premises and fell asleep. Unaware of the attempted burglary overnight, family members found the intruder the next morning and alerted the police.The unusual turn of events drew local residents to the spot. Fire brigade personnel also assisted in apprehending the accused before handing him over to the police.Town SHO Umashankar said preliminary inquiry suggests only one person may have been involved. “The valuables had been gathered but were not taken away. It appears the family woke up before the theft could be completed. The accused may have concealed himself inside the house and later fallen asleep,” he said.A family member, Gaurav Kumar, found the accused lying on a mattress under a bed in the morning. The family allegedly assaulted him before police arrived. Injured during the apprehension, the accused was admitted to Nawada Sadar Hospital for treatment.
