Prayagraj: A youth was taken into custody in connection with the Nawabganj assault case on Tuesday. Police said that one Daya Shankar of Judapur village lodged a complaint with Nawabganj police station on Monday night against Amit, Anuj, Vikas and Anupam, residents of Pyasi, accusing them of assaulting him.An FIR under appropriate sections was registered. Police said that raids are being carried out to ensure the arrest of miscreants, while police have already taken Anupam into custody for quizzing. DCP (Ganga Nagar) Kuldeep Singh said that investigations revealed that two opposite groups were at loggerheads at the railway crossing in Baribojh village and left the victim, Daya Shankar, injured on his nose.The victim was taken to a Community Health Centre and sent back home after the treatment. He added that cops are probing the other charges levelled by the victim.It may be recalled that hundreds of people on Monday night thronged Nawabganj police station to mark their protest against the youth thrashing incident. They also levelled charges of tearing the posters of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar by a group of people and involved themselves in a scuffle. Cops, however, said that they are probing the charges and action would be initiated accordingly.
