Guwahati: More than 100 alumni from different batches of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) in the northeast, under Shillong Region, gathered at PM SHRI Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Rangia, in Kamrup district, for a regional alumni meet recently, celebrating their shared memories and achievements.Kamrup district commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra attended the meet as the chief guest, while Rangia co-district commissioner Nabajit Pathak was the guest of honour.Mishra commended Navodaya Vidyalayas for nurturing rural talent through quality education and lauded the achievements of their alumni. He also urged former students to contribute to the development of their alma mater.“Navodaya students have a distinct advantage, with strong cultural exposure and a well-equipped campus that encourages them to excel in diverse fields beyond academics,” said Mishra, adding that the foundation laid at Navodaya had enabled students to distinguish themselves across various walks of life.NVS Shillong Region assistant commissioner MG Arvindakshan described Navodaya alumni as the true pace-setters and brand ambassadors of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. He said the residential school system had helped alumni develop proficiency and coordination in their professional lives.The alumni, now working in diverse fields as doctors, engineers, civil servants, officers in defence, entrepreneurs, music directors and teachers among other professions, reminisced about their hostel days and interacted with current students, offering guidance on career opportunities.Cultural performances by students, felicitation of senior alumni and musical and dance performances by former students were among the major attractions of the event. The programme was coordinated by the host school’s principal, Anjana.
