Amritsar: Former Congress functionary Navjot Kaur Sidhu has accused Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Raja Warring of exploiting Congress-affiliated youths by imposing a Rs 75 joining fee and allegedly collecting crores without offering jobs or opportunities in return. She posted on X: “Raja Warring, you are the first one who has not even spared the youth of Punjab linked to Congress by putting up a 1-member joining fee at Rs 75. And just imagine how many youngsters you looted. Could you please tell me how many youths you helped by getting them jobs or good placements?” She sought an explanation for spending around Rs 7.5 crores allegedly collected from the youths of Punjab. She questioned whether young people were being used merely as crowd-pullers for rallies and political shows. Navjot’s fresh barbs at the Congress leadership has triggered political turbulence not only within party circles but also across the Amritsar East constituency, from where she won the assembly elections on the BJP’s ticket in 2012. The unease was further amplified as the former BJP candidate Jagmohan Singh Raju, who lost the 2022 assembly elections from the Amritsar West constituency to AAP candidate Jeevan Jot Kaur, was already pushing hard to secure the party’s ticket for the 2027 assembly polls. Sources said that, given the way Navjot Kaur Sidhu praised the leadership of the BJP while censuring Congress leaders, the possibility of her joining the BJP cannot be ruled out.
