Prayagraj: The recently constituted National Sports Tribunal (NST) will help ensure quicker resolution of disputes involving athletes and bring greater transparency to sports administration, former Chief Justice of Patna and Madras High Courts Justice (retd) Amreshwar Pratap Shahi said.He was speaking during a national dialogue on the theme, “Justice in the Indian Sports Ecosystem” in Prayagraj on Saturday.The programme was organised jointly by Kreeda Bharati and a private college in Kareli.According to Virendra Nath Upadhyay, minister of Kreeda Bharati (Kashi province), the event brought together sportspersons, legal experts and policymakers to discuss reforms in sports governance.Justice Shahi, who was the chief guest at the programme, said the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, and the formation of NST would provide athletes with a specialised mechanism for prompt and impartial settlement of disputes.Former Sports Authority of India deputy director general Satyajit Sankrit highlighted the legal and administrative challenges faced by sports federations and said talented players would no longer have to suffer because of shortcomings in the existing system.Kreeda Bharati national organising secretary Prasad Mahankar described the legislation as a landmark step towards promoting transparency, gender equality and the protection of athletes’ rights.Justice Vipin Chandra Dixit presided over the programme, which was attended by Arjuna Award-winning badminton player Abhinn Shyam Gupta, coaches, advocates, journalists and office-bearers of various sports organisations.Upadhyay said the dialogue would contribute to the creation of a transparent and accountable sports ecosystem in the country.
