Ganderbal, Aug 30: Macadamisation work has commenced on one of the major link roads connecting Kangan with the famous tourist destination of Naranag in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, bringing relief to local residents and commuters who have repeatedly raised concerns over the condition of the vital road.
The Naranag-Kangan link road serves as an important connectivity route for residents as well as tourists visiting the picturesque Naranag area. Locals had on several occasions raised the issue of the road’s condition with the concerned authorities, seeking urgent macadamisation and improvement of the stretch.
Following repeated demands, the macadamisation work has now been taken up, with locals expressing hope that the project will improve connectivity and provide smoother and safer travel for commuters.
The issue had also been raised with the local MLA, who had earlier assured residents that the road would be taken up for macadamisation. With work now underway, residents have welcomed the development and urged the authorities to ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated time.
Locals have also urged the administration and concerned departments to keep the road corridor free from encroachments. They said any encroachment on the road or its right of way should be removed promptly to prevent future bottlenecks and ensure that the available road width is preserved.
Meanwhile, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is also carrying out macadamisation work on the Srinagar-Leh highway in the Ganderbal district. Work is underway on the stretch between Ganiwan and Gund, where road improvement activities are being undertaken to enhance the condition of the strategic highway.
The ongoing works on both the Naranag-Kangan link road and the Srinagar-Leh highway are expected to improve road connectivity in the area and facilitate smoother movement of local traffic, tourists and vehicles travelling towards the higher reaches.
Residents have called for regular monitoring of the ongoing works and stressed that proper drainage, road width and removal of encroachments should be given due attention so that the newly macadamised road remains durable and functional for years to come.
