Prayagraj: the new automated testing facility for driving licence applicants at the Naini transport office now operational. The system has been integrated with the transport department and online testing is being conducted, replacing the existing manual driving test process.Under the new system, applicants are now asked to clear driving tests in two stages. In the first stage, their driving ability is assessed on a simulator. Applicants clearing the simulator test are then being required to take the practical test on the actual driving track.The track is equipped with CCTV cameras and advanced sensors to monitor the applicant’s driving movements and performance. The technology-based system is aimed at reducing human intervention and making the assessment process more transparent and uniform.ARTO Vijay Singh said the testing centre was integrated with the transport department on Sept 24 and online testing has now startedMeanwhile, owners of private vehicles having seven to nine seats are no longer required to visit the transport office every two years for a fitness certificate. The transport department has removed the mandatory fitness certification requirement for such private vehicles.Around 15,000 private vehicles in the district are expected to benefit from the change. Vehicle owners are being spared both the time spent visiting the transport office and the expenses associated with periodic fitness checks.Singh said the exemption applies only to private vehicles. The existing fitness testing and certification requirements continue for commercial vehicles with seven to nine seats.
