Nagpur: Around 1,000 teachers and other staff deputed for the upcoming Census 2027 have refused to take up enumeration duty, a development confirmed by district administration officials on Wednesday. The administration has warned of strict action against employees who continue to remain absent.The census exercise is being conducted under the Ministry of Home Affairs, and compliance with official orders is mandatory. According to officials of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, several officers and employees appointed as enumerators and supervisors under the Dharampeth zone did not report for work.

Officials said department heads of the concerned institutions were directed to ensure immediate compliance with the orders. Assistant municipal commissioner (Dharampeth zone) Rajkumar Meshram urged all staff to join the census work immediately so that the exercise can be carried out smoothly.
