On Wednesday, state science and biotechnology minister Kalyan Chakraborty digitally laid foundation stones for both projects during the 33rd West Bengal State Science and Technology Congress 2026 at New Town Convention Centre.

Kolkata: The state govt will develop an Astro Park in Nadia and a satellite Biotech Hub in Kalimpong. On Wednesday, state science and biotechnology minister Kalyan Chakraborty digitally laid foundation stones for both projects during the 33rd West Bengal State Science and Technology Congress 2026 at New Town Convention Centre.“The Astro Park will be developed with National Council of Science Museums. Nadia was chosen because it lies on Tropic of Cancer, ideal for astrophysics,” Chakraborty said. Additional chief secretary Nandini Chakravorty said a two-acre plot has been identified for the park.The department signed an MoU with National Atlas and Thematic Mapping Organisation for a state atlas, featuring a Braille map for the visually impaired. Another MoU with IIT Kharagpur will drive innovations in govt departments. Discussions with ISRO are advancing to link space research to the education system.
