Auqib Nabi has joined the Indian team in New Chandigarh as a net bowler to assist Shubman Gill & Co. in their preparations for the one-off Test against Afghanistan beginning on Saturday.
The other net bowlers with the team are Gurjapneet Singh, Prince Yadav, Saransh Jain, Zeeshan Ansari and Shivang Kumar.
While Nabi, Gurjapneet and Prince are pacers with promise, Saransh, Zeeshan and Shivang are among the emerging crop of spinners.
India had its first training session at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in New Chandigarh on Tuesday. Former India leggie Sairaj Bahutule has joined the team as spin-bowling coach.
Nabi has had a stellar run for Jammu & Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy over the past couple of seasons, and was widely considered to be unfortunate not to be picked in the 15-member squad for the upcoming Test. After taking 44 wickets in the 2024-25 season, the swing bowler from Baramulla raised his game further to end with a chart-topping 60 scalps in a victorious 2025-26 campaign.
Uncapped pacer Gurnoor Brar has been included ahead of Nabi. Left-arm spinners Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey also feature in the Test squad for the first time.
