Mysuru: It’s official. Mysuru voter count will come down by 5.6 lakh from the existing 27.9 lakh.Narasimharaja constituency will have the highest deletion of 99,000-plus voters followed by Krishnaraja 86,000, Chamaraja 85,000 and Chamundeshwari 75,000 voters. This will bring down the total voters’ count to under 2.3 lakh (from 3.3 lakh) in Narasimharaja and under 2.8 lakh (from existing 3.6 lakh) in Chamundeshwari. The lowest deletion of voters is in Periyapatna constituency with just 22,800 voters.SIR commenced in Mysuru on June 30 when Mysuru had 27,99,693 voters and the process was completed on Aug 17 with the names of 55,7,184 voters scheduled to be counted out from the electoral roll.DC Lakshmikanth Reddy, who is the district election officer, told TOI that about 19.9% of voters (5,57,184) of the total have fallen into Absent, Shifted, Deceased, Duplicate and other categories and their entries will be taken off the draft Special Intensive Revision (SIR), which will soon be announced.Officials cited an example of a booth-level officer (BLO) whose name was found on the electoral roll in his home district and in his work area and was also recorded in Mysuru. Three separate forms were generated against his name during the verification process. After he retained one valid entry in Mysuru, the other two registrations would be deleted as ‘permanently shifted’.Apart from these, the authorities noted that around 1.3 lakh “absent voters” have also been flagged. These cases, too, are being treated as likely instances of duplicate or incorrect voter details requiring deletion or correction.Reddy stated that there have not been any complaints regarding the SIR process during the last 49 days, and that the electoral roll has been cleaned.Showkat Pasha, former corporator and Mysuru District Congress Committee vice-president, said, according to the district administration, about 5.5 lakh voters are out of the electoral roll and a similar number of voters are likely to get notices to rectify logical discrepancies in their names, age details and progeny or parentage-related records..The district authorities said spelling corrections will be done by the AERO, while in cases involving larger inconsistencies or doubts about identity, notices will be issued to the voters asking them to appear and produce supporting proof.
