Patna: Mystery shrouds the death of a 17-year-old coaching student, whose body was found near a busy vegetable market in Nawada town on Sunday. The deceased, Preeti, travelled about 15km daily from her village to attend classes in the town and had left home as usual earlier in the day, family members said.According to police, preliminary inquiries revealed that the girl reached the market area and asked some people for water. After drinking water, she sat near a Hanuman temple. A short while later, locals noticed that she was not moving and found her condition critical. Senior officials, including Sadar SDO Amit Anurag, SDPO Hulas Kumar and SHO Umashankar Singh, reached the spot and inspected the area. The SDPO said, “The police are examining all possible angles and reconstructing her movements from the time she left home until she reached the market. We are trying to ascertain why the girl’s health suddenly deteriorated. Statements of eyewitnesses are being recorded and all circumstances leading to the incident verified,” the SDPO said.Police are also probing whether she had any pre-existing health issues or her condition worsened suddenly after reaching the market. “It would be premature to speculate on the reason behind the death. The key question is how her health deteriorated after drinking water and how she died within a short span of time. All will become clear only after the post-mortem,” Kumar said. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the report.
