Sasaram: Five armed and masked robbers broke into a jewellery showroom in Bikramganj town of Rohtas district in broad daylight on Sunday. They decamped with cash, gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 10 lakh, triggering panic in one of the area’s busiest commercial hubs. The robbery took place around noon at Hira Abhushan Bhandar on Ara Road near Tenduni Chowk.According to shop owner Pramit Kumar alias Guddu, five men entered the showroom at around 12pm. Three of them were wearing helmets while the other two had covered their faces with scarves.The assailants allegedly threatened the shop owner at gunpoint, abused him and demanded the keys to the locker. Fearing for his safety, Kumar handed over the keys.

The gang then looted cash and gold and silver ornaments worth more than Rs 10 lakh before fleeing the spot while brandishing weapons.On receiving information, police officials led by Bikramganj SDPO Sindhu Shekhar Singh rushed to the showroom and launched an investigation. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) also examined the crime spot and collected evidence. “Police are scanning CCTV footage from nearby establishments to identify the accused and trace their escape route,” he said.The daylight robbery has once again raised concerns over the security of jewellery traders in Bikramganj and adjoining areas. Members of the local Jewellery Traders’ Association said jewellers have been feeling increasingly vulnerable due to repeated incidents of theft and robbery.Association president Sintu Kumar alleged that despite frequent crimes targeting jewellers, adequate preventive measures have not been implemented. Jeweller and BJP functionary Madan Prasad Vaishya said traders had repeatedly approached local authorities and the district police seeking stronger security arrangements, but little action had followed.Traders pointed out that the region has witnessed several similar incidents in recent years. In January, an attempted burglary at Lalaji Jewellery Shop was foiled after CCTV footage and prompt information from the building owner alerted police and the shop owner, forcing the burglars to flee.With several cases still awaiting a breakthrough, local businessmen have urged police to intensify surveillance, increase patrolling and ensure the swift arrest of those involved in Sunday’s robbery.
