Interview

JU VC Chiranjib Bhattacharjee

JU VC Chiranjib Bhattacharjee fielded a few questions from TOI on recent campus developmentsQ Which graffiti did the university remove? We received multiple complaints regarding certain graffiti, which we reviewed and discussed internally. The artwork that was highly objectionable, and for which we received complaints from both inside and outside the university, was removed on Saturday. The university reviewed which graffiti should not be on campus and erased it. Students have their own personal views and political ideologies, and they can express them freely. However, before writing anything on university walls, they must understand that ‘my political ideology’ should not hurt others’ sentiments.Q Do you think proper guidelines are required regarding wall art creation?Certain graffiti that we identified have already been removed on Saturday. Today is Sunday, the university is closed today. We have already taken actions as per requirement. Apart from that, nothing has been decided yet.Q ABVP has demanded that more graffiti be erased. What is your reaction? They may have their demands. However, we have not received anything official yet.Q A section of students opposed this move, while another group wanted more wall graffiti be erased. What is your take on the matter?Everyone will have their own demands, but regarding this matter, the university’s decision will be final.
