For 12 years, Sourabh had built his career at Oracle, often putting work ahead of holidays, weekends and even important family moments. But when his employment came to an end, there was no long farewell or personal conversation. According to his wife, Pooja Sahu, he realised he had lost his job after he could no longer log into his work system.Pooja shared the news in a LinkedIn post, recalling the extent to which her husband had committed himself to his job and appealing to her professional network to help him find his next opportunity.“I have never seen a person so hardworking and dedicated to his work,” she wrote.
Working through festivals, weekends and family moments
In her post, Pooja described several moments that, she said, reflected how seriously Sourabh took his responsibilities at work.When she was admitted to hospital for surgery to remove polyps, Pooja said her husband continued working from the hospital. During a family vacation in New Mexico, he remained on call while she drove.Work also continued through occasions that would normally mean time away from the office.“He worked during Holi, Diwali, Rakhi, and other festivals, as well as on birthdays, anniversaries, and weekends,” Pooja wrote.The couple had also adopted a dog a few weeks before the layoff. According to Pooja, Sourabh continued working late into the night while taking care of their new pet, sometimes working until 3 am and eventually falling ill.Yet, she said, those around him rarely saw him complain.Pooja described him as someone who maintained a smile despite the pressure and was always willing to help colleagues and friends. She said he had spent nearly two decades in the IT industry and had also received a Best Employee Award during his career.
Wife seeks opportunities for Sourabh
With Sourabh now looking for his next role, Pooja used the post not only to share what had happened but also to ask her professional network for help.“If you know of any opportunities, please refer him,” she wrote, adding that employers would gain not only a team player but “a friend for life”.The post has since drawn attention from professionals discussing the uncertainty that can accompany long corporate careers. One person who said they had worked with Sourabh praised his expertise in integrations and RICS-related issues and described him as a dependable problem-solver and team player.
Oracle’s latest round of layoffs
Sourabh’s layoff comes amid another round of job cuts at Oracle. The company began a fresh round of layoffs on September 14, with affected employees reportedly receiving early-morning emails informing them that their roles had been eliminated as part of broader organisational changes. Oracle has not publicly disclosed the total number of employees affected in this latest round.The latest cuts follow a much larger reduction earlier in 2026. Oracle’s workforce fell by about 21,000 employees, or 13%, during fiscal 2026, leaving the company with roughly 141,000 employees at the end of May. The company has also been significantly increasing spending on AI infrastructure and data centres.For Pooja, however, the latest development is less about corporate numbers and more about the person behind one of those job cuts.“This post is for everyone who works day and night to provide for their families, especially amid visa uncertainty, yet still gives their best every day,” she wrote.And for her husband, she ended with a message of reassurance: “Sourabh S., better things are coming for you.”
