Gorakhpur: National Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign commenced in the district on Sunday with Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishan administering polio drops to children aged between six months and five years at the District Women Hospital.The MP said India achieved a major milestone in eliminating polio, but sustaining that success required ensuring thatevery eligible child receives the vaccine. He urged parents to bring all children below five years of age for immunisation and support the health department’s efforts.Ravi Kishan said welfare and health of children were top priority for govts led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath. He noted that public health initiatives and immunisation drives are aimed at securing healthier future for children.Emphasising the importance of vaccination, he said two drops of the polio vaccine can protect a child from lifelong disability. Health department officials informed that vaccination booths were set up across the district, while teams comprising ASHA workers, ANMs and health personnel will conduct door-to-door visits to administer drops to children who miss the booths.Officials said the campaign will be monitored closely to ensure no eligible child is left out.
