Jody Quon is T Magazine‘s new editor-in-chief. Quon previously spent two decades at New York Magazine, and before that, more than a decade at The New York Times in the photography department. 7-Eleven Sues Nike Over Sneaker Colors
7-Eleven is suing Nike in a federal court in Texas, accusing the sportswear brand of copying its orange, green and red stripe design on a sneaker that Nike plans to release on July 11 (a.k.a. “7-Eleven Day”). In the lawsuit, 7-Eleven said Nike’s upcoming Air Max 95 shoe features a “confusingly similar imitation” of the company’s tri-color stripe branding. The retailer is seeking a court order blocking Nike’s sales of the sneaker and a recall of products already distributed. {Reuters}
Madison Avenue Vacancy Hits 20-Year Low
Madison Avenue has welcomed 18 new stores, galleries and restaurants over the past six months, which lowers its vacancy rate to a nearly 20-year low of 4.9%. According to the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District, its vacancy rate stood at 5.5% in January, 7.6% a year ago and 16% in October 2020. Contemporary brands like Dôen, Roxanne Assoulin, Ruti, Susan Alexandra and Yigal Azrouël all opened boutiques on Madison Avenue this year. {WWD/paywalled}
Swedish Beauty Brand Manasi 7 Secures $1.5 Million Investment
Manasi 7, a Swedish beauty brand founded in 2018, has secured a minority investment of 15 million SEK ($1.5 million) from investment platform Divinity Studio. Founder and CEO Susanne Manasi said the investment will allow Manasi 7 to increase inventory and better meet growing demand from retailers. Tory Burch Names New Chief Brand Officer
Tory Burch LLC has named Klitos Teklos as its first-ever chief brand officer, effective Tuesday. Reporting directly to Tory Burch, Teklos will lead the company’s global brand strategy and oversee global visual merchandising, social media and global marketing teams. Teklos joins Tory Burch from Tēklos, the brand architecture agency he founded in 2023. {WWD/paywalled}
