Hisar: A man accused in a murder and rape case was arrested after he was injured in a police encounter with a crime investigation agency (CIA) team of Fatehabad district police on Monday.DSP Kulwant Singh said Mahendra Singh of Fatehabad was wanted in connection with the recovery of a woman’s body found on a road in Jan. He faces 18 criminal cases. He had earlier escaped from Sirsa police custody.
The DSP said a police team, led by CIA Ratia team in-charge sub-inspector Pradeep Kumar, noticed a suspicious motorcyclist on Bhakra Canal Road near Nagal village. When signalled to stop, the accused tried to flee and opened fire. Two bullets struck ASI Raghubir Singh’s bulletproof jacket. The police team fired back, injuring the accused in the leg. He was overpowered and arrested. Police recovered an illegal 32-bore pistol, four empty cartridges, and two live rounds from the accused.
