Chandrapur: Rajura police have slapped Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on five accused in the murder of 24-year-old Vinod alias Papa Jadhav outside Rajura taluka court last month.Police said the accused were habitual offenders with previous serious cases registered against them. A detailed proposal for MCOCA action was submitted to the special inspector general of police, Nagpur Range, who granted permission to invoke the stringent law.Police said Jadhav, a resident of Somnathpur ward, was sitting with friends near a coconut-water stall opposite the court between 5.30pm and 6pm on Aug 24 when Karan Durgraj Mekalwar and Karan Deepak Baviskar allegedly arrived on a motorcycle with their faces covered with scarves. Baviskar allegedly pulled out a pistol and fired at Jadhav at close range, killing him.During investigation, Rajura police arrested Parvez Sarvar Sheikh, Kartik Umesh Khamankar and Saurabh alias Bhurji Umesh Khamankar for allegedly plotting the crime, instigating the shooters and providing direct or indirect assistance. Police also seized three firearms, three empty magazines and six live cartridges.The MCOCA action was carried out by PI Nitin Chincholkar under the guidance of SP Ayush Nopany, additional SP Ishwar Katkade and SDPO Kumar Sushant.
