Calangute: The mysterious death of a tourist from Karnataka whose body was found in a partially decomposed condition last Tuesday in a car parked at the parking lot has now been registered as a case of murder by Calangute police.A murder case against unknown accused persons was registered late on Friday night after the post-mortem report revealed that the tourist, Shanmukha Bhavimani, 41, died as a result of injuries from an assault. Calangute police said the incident “occurred prior to 1.28pm on Tuesday, Aug 11, at the parking area near Calangute football ground” when the body was found.Calangute police had been alerted on Tuesday by locals after they noticed the man lying dead inside a parked rent-a-cab car. The deceased was identified as a resident of Raichur, Karnataka.During police inquiry, it was later found that he had arrived in Calangute with two other persons including a woman the previous Saturday. The others had left by the time his body was found.Bhavimani’s murder comes a little over a month after the murder of Sandeep Salayam, a tourist from Malpe, Karnataka, who was found dead in his hotel room on June 30. Both murder cases involved tourists from Karnataka.Salayam, a water sports operator and a former driver of a Karnataka minister, had allegedly been accompanied by an unidentified woman to a casino and was staying in a room at a resort in Umtawaddo, Calangute. He allegedly died after being given an overdose of drugs by the woman. The woman, Akshata alias Rupashree C, was arrested from Bengaluru a few days later.Salayam had driven down to Goa accompanied by his cousin and a couple of other friends. All of them were staying in a hotel in Calangute in separate rooms. The next day when his cousin and friends tried to call him there was no response. He was found in a lifeless condition in his room at around 10pm on July 2 by his cousin.
