BENGALURU: A murder accused was shot in the leg by police on Wednesday after he allegedly attacked personnel with a machete and hurled stones while attempting to escape during a weapons recovery operation.The incident took place on Hemmigepura Road within the limits of Thalaghattapura police station, news agency PTI reported.The accused was among four people arrested in connection with a murder case registered at JP Nagar police station. The incident happened on June 27, in which a man was allegedly hacked to death with deadly weapons.Police said that based on information provided by one of the accused, Mahadev, he was taken near NICE Road to recover weapons used in the crime.After the recovery, the accused allegedly pushed a police officer, picked up a concealed machete, attacked the police team and hurled stones at personnel, a senior officer said.In self-defence, sub-inspector Savinaya warned him before opening fire, injuring him in the left leg.Police said two head constables, Veeresh and Sangamesh, were injured in the incident, with one sustaining a bleeding injury to the chest.The accused was admitted to Shankar Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment and is stated to be stable, PTI reported.The injured accused is a rowdy-sheeter from Kumaraswamy Layout with 14 criminal cases, including murder and attempt-to-murder cases.A separate case has been registered against him for attacking police personnel, the officer said.Investigators said the same gang was also involved in a chain-snatching incident in KR Puram police station limits on the same night.(With agency inputs)
